About

Following consultation and discussion with our partners and relevant agencies the Civic Forum was created. It was agreed that the values and guiding principles of the Civic Forum would include:

  • Building a vision of collective responsibility among the wider community in relation to alcohol and drugs. This would include taking a lead in a cultural shift in attitudes;
  • Creating the space for all engaged in alcohol and drugs services and provisions to understand their role in the ‘bigger picture’;

  • Ensuring that the Forum takes account of and builds on the very good work on Alcohol and Drugs which is currently being done by a range of agencies in the district;
  • Takes an inclusive approach to the engagement of all sectors in addressing the challenges of alcohol and drugs in the district including the civic leadership, community, statutory and private sectors.
  • Puts in place an effective communication structure, one which places cultural attitudes to the fore. There is a need to make the most of existing resources and avoid duplication.
