Bagenals Castle
Since discovering the remains of the
castle and reconciling them with the 16th century map and drawings,
there has been considerable professional and local interest in the
restorations.
Following an extensive restoration
of the site, completed in early 2007, the redevelopment of the overall
site has resulted in a visitor attraction and interpretative centre
based on the discoveries made during the restoration work. Newry
Museum has been relocated to the new site and provides an exciting
range of existing artefacts donated to the museum to complement
those discovered on the castle site. In addition to this, a tourist
information centre and educational resource form part of the restored
development.
