Environmental Health

Our Mission Statement

“To provide a range of services designed to maintain and improve the quality of life, the environment and to protect the health and safety of the public”.


Our main areas of work include:

Food Safety

Aim - “to reduce the risk to consumers by striving to ensure that all food produced, imported or sold within the district is fit for human consumption, is of genuine quality and composition, correctly labelled and free from contamination”.
Environmental Protection

Environmental Protection

Aim to protect and enhance public health and our environment through education and enforcement, with a focus on : Air Quality (the quality of air we breathe) , Noise Nuisance (investigation of noise complaints), Radiation Monitoring and Environmental Management (waste disposal, use of natural resources, energy conservation and transport).

Health and Safety at Work

Aim - “to enhance the health safety and welfare of persons at work and protect those who may be put at risk arising from work activities in those premises for which we have enforcement responsibility”

Consumer Protection and Home Safety

Aim - “to protect the safety and health of the public through the monitoring of consumer goods on sale and through targeted action to vulnerable groups relating to safety in the home”

Public Health and Housing

Aim - “to investigate and remedy where necessary conditions which present a risk to health and well being due to poor housing, drainage or public health nuisances”


Port Health

Aim – to prevent the introduction into the country of epidemic, contagious and infectious diseases and to ensure the wholesomeness of imported food.

Dog Control

Aim - “to minimize the problems caused by dogs be it straying, fouling or attacking people or animals”

Litter Control

Aim – “to protect public health and the environment from the consequences of litter, dog fouling and abandoned trolleys on land in the open air”.

Aim – “to promote public safety, health and welfare by carrying out statutory and regulatory functions”.
