Newry & Mourne District Council Sister City Exhibition in Southern Pines
Newry and Mourne District Council

18th December 2009

The Sister Cities Committee of Newry and Mourne District Council launched its request for contribution of photographic images representing the Newry & Mourne area in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre.

The photographs are requested as part of a project with the Councils new sister city partner, Southern Pines in North Carolina. A maximum of 36 photographs are to be supplied for the exhibition therefore it may be necessary to select a range of images to reflect the District.

The selected photographs will be part of a exhibition featuring Southern Pines and Newry & Mourne at the Palustris Festival (Latin for long leaf pines) from March 2-30, 2010 at the Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines. The exhibition will then be featured in Newry & Mourne over the summer of 2010.

Launch of Sister Cities Competition

Speaking at the launch Mayor of Newry & Mourne DC, Councillor Feehan said “This project provides a great opportunity to showcase the Newry & Mourne area and the diversity of our people, places and landscape. We realize we have wonderful resources across the District and this provides an opportunity to provide a photographic image of what our area has to offer”.

Photographs should be taken within Newry & Mourne . Photographs should capture life across Newry & Mourne including people, places, and things. An individual can contribute up to 2 photographs per person.

Also speaking at the launch Chairperson of The Sister Cities Committee Councillor Michael Carr said: “This is the first of a number of initiatives being considered by both Southern Pines and Newry & Mourne Committees. It gives us a wonderful opportunity to showcase our district in our sister community and to an international audience.
