Newry and Mourne District Council Launches Major Community Planning Conference

Councillor John Feehan, Mayor of Newry and Mourne officially launched a major conference to be held in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry on Wednesday 3 February 2010.

The conference, entitled People and Participation: The Potential of Community Planning, will look at the experience of Community Planning to date and provide a valuable opportunity for the Community, Private and Public Sectors to discuss various ideas around Community Planning and to discover how they can contribute to and benefit from such a process.

Community Planning has been in place in Great Britain for a number of years. The keynote conference speaker, Mr George Black, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Council will his experiences of Community Planning in action and the benefits it has brought to his city.

Councillor Feehan said “The introduction of Community Planning will be one of the most fundamental changes to the of Councils in recent years. The Conference will provide an exciting opportunity for the different organisations that contribute to the wellbeing of our communities to come together to learn about this most important process and to share ideas”
