Community Safety Partnership Safer Driving Project

The Newry Subgroup of the Newry and Mourne Community Safety Partnership recently hosted a presentation evening for participants of their ‘Break for It’ – Safer Driving Project. Young people from across Newry were chosen to take part in the project, which looked at various issues with a particular emphasis on the importance of safe driving. The participants took completed a ten-week programme, which included a number of workshops with different agencies. At the presentation evening the participants of the project were presented with driving lesson vouchers.

Speaking at the event, Chair of the Newry Subgroup of the Community Safety Partnership, Mr Ewan Morgan, congratulated the group on the successful completion of the project. He said that the group of young people were a great example to their peers. Mr Morgan also thanked other members of the Newry subgroup for their help in promoting the project amongst the local communities. Mr Morgan also paid special thanks to Ms Lynn Bradley (SELB) and Mr Michael Carlisle (Youth Justice Agency) who were the main facilitators of the workshops.

Mayor of Newry and Mourne, Mr John Feehan, thanked the group for their time and commitment whilst participating in the project. Mr Feehan said that he felt the project was extremely important as it emphasised to the participants the importance of safe driving as well as highlighting the dangers associated with careless driving." Mr Feehan said that he looked forward to hearing how the group progressed with their driving lessons and driving test, and wished them many years of safe driving. The Mayor concluded by congratulating the Newry subgroup on their innovative approach which they have taken with their projects and thanked them for their dedication in ensuring that projects are delivered effectively to help make positive changes in local communities.
