Recycler of the Month February
Newry and Mourne District Council

22nd February 2010

Lynda Quinn, Mourneview Park, Kilkeel is the winner of the Recycler of the Month competition for February. A £50 cheque was presented to the winner by the competition sponsor’s ReGen.

Lynda and her family recycle everything they can in their blue and brown bin. They also take any glass and large green waste to Kilkeel Amenity Site for recycling. Lynda is a keen recycler and encourages recycling in the groups that she is involved with.

(l-r ):Therese Hamill (NMDC) and Lynda Quinn(Winner)

Householders in the area should be congratulated as officers, this month found that nearly all the bins presented contained the right materials, however, plastic packaging, not bottles, is still being mistakenly placed in the blue bin. All other plastic types must be placed into the black bin; this includes plastic bags, plastic food packaging/ trays and yoghurt containers.

Anyone who uses his or her blue bin correctly is eligible to win. This means that the blue bin is not contaminated, all material is clean, dry and loose, and where appropriate lids are removed and containers are washed and squashed. Items that can be placed in your blue bin include:
- newspapers and magazines
- cardboard: cereal boxes, tissue boxes, frozen food boxes
- food and drink cans: soup cans, fizzy drinks cans, aerosols, biscuit and sweet tins
- plastic bottles: milk bottles, shampoo bottles, detergent bottles.

For more information about recycling or the competition, please contact Therese Hamill on (028) 30313233 or email recycling@newryandmourne.gov.uk
